Students at HVSS receive a 30 min physical education lesson once a week from a PE specialist teacher.
The year 4-6 students learn and experience a variety of traditional team sports including Golf, Basketball, Volleyball, Kanga Cricket, Tag League, Hockey, Soccer, AFL. They also play modified games to help develop skills, team work& tactics. A swimming and water safety program is offered for an entire term.
We have three Inter-house competitions - Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming.
From these competitions students that excel have the opportunity to progress to the next level of competition which is district , then regional followed by state and on two occasions we have had students compete at national titles. We can also nominate students to trial at district level for a variety of team sports.
The year 5-6 students also participate in an interschool sport program on Friday afternoons. There are two 10 week seasons over the year. Students take a bus into Ipswich to participate with schools from the area.
The Prep to 3 students also receive one 30min Physical Education lesson a week from a specialist PE teacher.
The focus here is to develop both gross and fine motor skills. Promote an understanding of simple games that are precursors to sporting and recreational activities. To develop positive attitudes toward physical activity through play.
Year 1-3 students also participate in a learn to swim, stroke development and water safety program usually in term 4.
P-3 inter-house cross country and athletics competitions are also held during the year where participation is the major focus.
The sporting facilities at HVSS include a well maintained oval, an outdoor multipurpose court and an indoor multipurpose sports hall.
