At Hatton Vale State School we are committed to providing equitable education opportunities for all of our students. We hold firm beliefs that all students can learn, can appreciate diversity and can interact in a respectful manner whilst maintaining a personal sense of belonging.
Referrals are submitted by teachers after consultation with parents/carers. No referral is submitted without the prior agreement of the parents/carers.
We have a Student Services Meeting where our referrals are reviewed fortnightly by the Student Services Committee (SSC), which includes the Principal, the Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy (STLaN),the Guidance Officer, the Head of Special Education (HOSES), representative classroom teachers, Curriculum Advisory Consultant (CAC) and occasionally Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVT) and therapists.
The referral process involves an Individual Differentiation Plan (IDP) devised by the classroom teacher to identify areas of concern. This is then submitted, along with a Referral form, to the SSC. This process will determine which:
~ students would benefit from additional support (including Gifted and Talented). These students can access a variety of services.
~students with disabilities and are referred to the HOSES who is responsible for coordination, planning and delivery of the relevant programs.
