Students are identified under the Education Adjustment Program as having a diagnosed disability in the following areas: Intellectual Disability (ID), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech Language Impairment (SLI), Physical Impairment (PI), Vision Impairment (VI) and Hearing Impairment (HI).  This includes students in the prior to Prep age group who require early intervention and attend our Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP)

As part of the Hatton Vale Cluster Special Education Program (SEP), resources and programs are shared across the following schools:-

Lake Clarendon State School

Forest Hill State School

Lockrose State School

Thornton State School

Blenheim State School

Kentville State School

Hatton Vale State School

Programs are carefully planned and considered based on individual need and developed in collaboration with the classroom teacher, Case Manager and often with Advisory Visiting Teachers  (AVT’s) and therapists.

The aim is to enable students to participate in mainstream school programs and achieve curriculum outcomes. Individual Learning Plans and Individual Support Plans are written to document and review the curriculum level they are working at, the nature and frequency of the support they require and additional focus areas outside of the Australian Curriculum for example, social participation, personal health and safety and general wellbeing programs.

We have an experienced team of teachers with Special Education training who provide highly engaging learning experiences for the students whilst utilising a diverse range of strategies and resources, including information communication technologies (ICT’s). We also rely on the knowledge and experience of our teacher-aides who work tirelessly with our students under the guidance of the case managers. Our SEP team also receives itinerant support from AVT’s in HI, PI, Curriculum, and Behaviour as well as therapy support from the Physiotherapist, Speech Therapist, and Occupational Therapist.
